International Building Code (IBC) 2018 (International Code Council Series)
The 2018 International Building Code (IBC) has several important changes that affect how buildings are designed, made safe, and how they perform. One big change is that any storage space, no matter how big or small, is now considered part of the area it’s attached to. This makes it easier to follow storage rules. The code also includes new rules about medical gas systems and labs in colleges and universities to make sure these spaces are safer. New rules on fire walls say they can only be used to decide what kind of buildings can be built based on size and height.
The number of people that can be in a business space has changed—now one person is allowed per 150 square feet. Also, decks and balconies must hold more weight, so they need to support 1.5 times the weight of the space they are over.
